I had insomnia for 5 and a half years and it was severe. It's not mild difficulty sleeping as you're probably thinking the other guy has. Once you have insomnia for years, you become accustomed to living a new lifestyle where you have to account for your insomnia instead of treating it as an otherwordly experience.

Z drugs and benzos are great for getting to sleep; but cannot really produce good quality sleep for the whole night (similar to alcohol). Not to mention tolerance. The benzos and Z drugs are IMO the most overprescribed drugs; at least opiates have some legitimate indications in pain; theres no role for these drugs in insomnia or anxiety except ...
